Biography
Japan were an English art rock band formed in Catford, London, in 1974 by David Sylvian, Mick Karn and Steve Jansen, later joined by Richard Barbieri and Rob Dean. They evolved from glam rock into a refined electronic art pop on 'Quiet Life' (1979), 'Gentlemen Take Polaroids' (1980) and 'Tin Drum' (1981), becoming reluctant figureheads of the New Romantic era before splitting in 1982. The classic lineup later reunited briefly as *Rain Tree Crow*.
