Johann Sebastian Bach / Glenn Gould

Biography

The Bach recordings of Glenn Gould, the Canadian pianist whose lucid, rhythmically charged playing transformed modern understanding of Johann Sebastian Bach's keyboard music. His 1955 'Goldberg Variations' for #Columbia Records# made him famous, and his 1981 remake, recorded shortly before his death, closed the circle. Gould's Bach, precise, singing and unmistakably personal, still defines these works for many listeners. His humming, eccentric seating and analytical clarity became inseparable from the sound itself.
