Biography
Glenn Gould was a Canadian pianist celebrated as one of the 20th century's most important and eccentric classical musicians. He is most renowned for his interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach, particularly his revolutionary 1955 recording of the 'Goldberg Variations' for #Columbia Masterworks#, which brought him international fame. Known for his remarkable technical proficiency and ability to articulate contrapuntal textures, Gould's style was both intellectual and deeply expressive. In 1964, he retired from public concerts to focus exclusively on studio recording and broadcasting, believing the studio offered greater artistic control. His legacy includes iconic recordings of Beethoven and Schoenberg, alongside his famed Bach repertoire.
