Biography
The Johnny Dyani Quartet was the final group led by South African bassist Johnny Dyani, an exile based in Denmark and a key figure in European free jazz. With saxophonist John Tchicai, trumpeter Harry Beckett and drummer Billy Hart, the quartet recorded 'Angolian Cry' in Copenhagen in July 1985 for #SteepleChase#, blending Dyani's South African melodic roots with free improvisation. It was his last album as a leader before his death in 1986.
