Biography
Jorge López Ruiz (1935–2018) was an Argentine bassist, composer and arranger, a pioneer of jazz in his country. His 1967 suite 'El Grito', a protest against the military regime, was banned and its tapes destroyed, making him a symbol of art under censorship. He led groups blending jazz with Argentine folk music, arranged for stars such as *Sandro*, and composed for film and television across a six-decade career.
