Astor Piazzolla was an Argentine bandoneon virtuoso, composer, and arranger who revolutionized tango music. He created a new style called 'nuevo tango,' which incorporated elements of jazz and classical music, shifting tango from the dance hall to the concert stage. Initially met with resistance from traditionalists, his work gained international acclaim, establishing him as one of the most important composers of the 20th century. He frequently performed his own compositions, such as the iconic 'Libertango' and 'Adiós Nonino', with various ensembles, most notably his Quinteto Nuevo Tango. His collaborations with artists like jazz saxophonist *Gerry Mulligan* further showcased his innovative fusion of genres.
