Kim Gordon

Kim Gordon

A multidisciplinary artist whose career originated in visual arts, Kim Gordon is principally recognized as a co-founder, vocalist, and bassist/guitarist for the pivotal band Sonic Youth. [1, 3] Her work with the group was central to defining the aesthetics of noise and alternative rock, merging an art-school sensibility with punk's raw energy. [18] Gordon’s distinctive vocal delivery and instrumental approach helped shape the band's experimental sound. [18] Following Sonic Youth's 2011 dissolution, she expanded her output through the experimental duo Body/Head and a solo career, further exploring textural sound and improvisation while continuing her established practice as a visual artist.
