Biography
Land of Kush is the big-band project of Montreal composer Sam Shalabi, an orchestra of over twenty players mixing Arabic melody, psychedelia, free jazz and experimental rock. With strings, horns, oud, santur, electronics and several singers, the group performs Shalabi's long-form compositions, three of them released by #Constellation Records# as 'Against the Day', 'Monogamy' and 'The Big Mango'. After a five-year break, the ensemble returned in 2019 with 'Sand Enigma', joining Montreal and Cairo musicians in its most expansive recording.
