Biography
Leon Thomas was an American jazz vocalist whose ululating, yodel-inflected style defined spiritual jazz singing. His performance of 'The Creator Has a Master Plan' with *Pharoah Sanders* on 'Karma' (1969) made his name, and his #Flying Dutchman# albums 'Spirits Known and Unknown' and 'Blues and the Soulful Truth' remain landmarks. He had earlier sung with the *Count Basie* Orchestra. Thomas died in the Bronx in 1999, aged 61.
