Biography
Mars were a pioneering New York no wave band, formed in 1975 by Sumner Crane, China Burg, Mark Cunningham and Nancy Arlen, none of them trained musicians. Their abrasive mix of angular songs, freeform noise and surreal lyrics made them regulars at CBGB and Max's Kansas City, and one of the four bands on *Brian Eno*'s 1978 compilation 'No New York'. They split in 1978, leaving a tiny discography that later noise and indie bands have drawn on heavily.
