Biography
Maurice McIntyre was a formidable tenor saxophonist and a key founding member of Chicago's influential Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Known also by his adopted name, Kalaparusha, his sound was a potent and spiritual mix of fiery free improvisation and a deep-rooted blues sensibility. He moved from Chicago to New York in the 1970s, becoming a fixture in the loft jazz scene. His debut album as a leader, 'Humility in the Light of the Creator' for #Delmark Records#, established him as a vital voice of the avant-garde, blending African rhythms and what he termed 'space music' with profound creative expression.
