Malachi Favors

Malachi Favors

A bassist, composer, and a founding member of the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago. Also known as Malachi Favors Maghostut, he was a foundational figure in Chicago's AACM. His powerful, resonant bass playing could be both a solid anchor and a free, conversational voice. Known for his use of face paint, costumes, and an arsenal of 'little instruments,' Favors was central to the Art Ensemble's philosophy of 'Great Black Music: Ancient to the Future.'
