Michael Nyman

Michael Nyman is an English composer, pianist, and musicologist celebrated for his minimalist compositions that bridge Baroque influences with modern sensibilities. He famously coined the term 'minimalism' in music criticism before becoming one of its leading practitioners. Nyman is widely known for his extensive film score work, particularly his long-term collaboration with director *Peter Greenaway* on films like 'The Draughtsman's Contract'. His international fame surged with his BAFTA-winning and multi-million selling soundtrack for Jane Campion's 1993 film 'The Piano'. Through his own ensemble, the Michael Nyman Band, and his label, #MN Records#, he has prolifically released a diverse body of work, including operas, string quartets, and symphonies.
