Biography
Popol Vuh were a German band led by keyboard player Florian Fricke, formed in Munich in 1969 and named after the Mayan sacred book. After two pioneering electronic albums, 'Affenstunde' and 'In den Gärten Pharaos', Fricke turned to acoustic, piano led music mixing rock, classical and sacred influences on albums such as 'Hosianna Mantra' and 'Letzte Tage, Letzte Nächte'. A rotating collective rather than a fixed lineup, the band worked closely with film director Werner Herzog and remained active until Fricke's death in 2001. They are regarded as pioneers of ambient and new age music.
