Shakti were an acoustic fusion band formed in 1973 by guitarist John McLaughlin and violinist L. Shankar with percussionists Zakir Hussain and T. H. 'Vikku' Vinayakram, blending Indian classical music with jazz. After the studio albums 'A Handful of Beauty' (1976) and 'Natural Elements' (1977), the group split, later reuniting under the Remember Shakti banner.
