Shellac

Shellac

Shellac was a minimalist rock trio from Chicago, renowned for its abrasive, rhythmically complex, and uncompromised sound. Formed in 1992, the steadfast lineup featured guitarist and vocalist Steve Albini, bassist Bob Weston, and drummer Todd Trainer. The band operated outside of typical music industry conventions, touring sporadically and treating the band as a side project to their main careers, most notably Albini and Weston's work as audio engineers. Their music, often classified as noise rock and math rock, is characterized by angular guitar riffs, driving and distorted basslines, and powerful, precise drumming. Major releases like 'At Action Park' and '1000 Hurts' on #Touch and Go Records# exemplify their raw, analog recording aesthetic and bitingly sarcastic lyrical themes.
