Biography
The Sir Douglas Quintet was a San Antonio band formed in 1964 around Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers, given a faux-British name by producer Huey P. Meaux at the height of the British Invasion. Their hit 'She's About a Mover' fused Cajun two-step rhythms, garage rock and conjunto organ into Tex-Mex rock, and later records such as 'Mendocino' helped pioneer country rock. Sahm and Meyers kept the name alive until Sahm's death in 1999.
