Biography
Suprême NTM, formed in Saint-Denis in 1989 by Joey Starr and Kool Shen, is the foundational group of French hardcore rap. Albums including 'Authentik' (1991), 'Paris sous les bombes' (1995) and 'Suprême NTM' (1998) channelled banlieue anger at racism and police violence into hits such as 'Ma Benz'. Legal battles over its lyrics made the duo a test case for free expression. The group split in 2001 and reunited for tours in 2008 and 2018 to 2019.
