Biography
Swell Maps were a Solihull group formed in 1972 around brothers Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks, with Jowe Head, Biggles Books, Phones B. Sportsman and Golden Cockrill. Their DIY singles and two albums for #Rough Trade#, 'A Trip to Marineville' (1979) and 'Swell Maps in Jane from Occupied Europe' (1980), fused punk energy with krautrock, noise and collage. They split in 1980, leaving a small catalogue that became a touchstone for post-punk, lo-fi and American underground rock.
