Biography
The Adverts were a London punk band formed in 1976 by TV Smith and Gaye Advert, one of punk's first prominent female bassists. Regulars at the Roxy Club, they scored a UK Top 20 hit with 'Gary Gilmore's Eyes' in 1977 and released the classic debut album 'Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts' in 1978. After the experimental 'Cast of Thousands', the band split in 1979, and Smith continued as a solo artist.
