Biography
Alabama country duo of brothers Ira Louvin (mandolin, high tenor) and Charlie Louvin (guitar, lead vocals), Grand Ole Opry members from 1955. Their close-harmony singing, honed in 1940s gospel music, produced Capitol classics including 'When I Stop Dreaming' and the album 'Satan Is Real' (1959), whose sleeve became iconic. Ira's alcoholism split the act in 1963; he died in 1965, while Charlie continued solo. The brothers entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
