Biography
The Modern Lovers were an American band formed in Natick, Massachusetts, in 1970 by Jonathan Richman, with Ernie Brooks, David Robinson and Jerry Harrison. Influenced by *The Velvet Underground* and *The Stooges*, their unreleased demos became the proto-punk landmark 'The Modern Lovers' (1976). Richman then led the quieter Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers until 1988, making seven more studio albums of folk rock and near childlike songs, including 'Rock 'n' Roll with the Modern Lovers' and 'Jonathan Sings!'.
