Biography
Formed in New York City in 1958, the New Lost City Ramblers were the traditionalist wing of the American folk revival: Mike Seeger, John Cohen and Tom Paley, later Tracy Schwarz, recreating the string-band music of the rural South from old 78s and field trips. Their #Folkways# albums, field recordings and festival work preserved old-time music and passed it to generations of revivalists, earning them a foundational place in American folk history.
