Biography
The Rippingtons were a United States smooth jazz and jazz fusion group led by guitarist Russ Freeman, who founded the band in 1985 and remained its only constant member through a long run of chart-topping albums. Beginning with 'Moonlighting' and 'Kilimanjaro' in the 1980s, the group defined radio-friendly contemporary jazz on #GRP Records# and later on Freeman's #Peak Records#, with saxophonists such as Jeff Kashiwa and Eric Marienthal rotating through the line-up. Their tunes were widely heard in The Weather Channel forecast segments.
