Biography
Hamburg band Tocotronic, formed in 1993 by Dirk von Lowtzow, Jan M眉ller and Arne Zank, became figureheads of the Hamburger Schule with slogan-like German lyrics set over lo-fi guitar rock. Albums such as 'Digital ist besser' (1995) and 'K.O.O.K.' (1999) shaped German-language indie music for a generation, and guitarist and keyboardist Rick McPhail completed the line-up in 2004. Three decades on, the band remains active and influential, its blend of noise, pop and ironic commentary intact.
