Biography
Formed in Tumwater, Washington, in 1988, Unwound defined a crucial vector of post-hardcore with a sound rooted in relentless, angular tension. The trio's early work was characterized by sharply dissonant guitar, intricate and driving rhythms, and a stark, existential lyrical approach. Over a decade, their sonic palette evolved, incorporating synthesizers, unconventional tones, and experimental structures that expanded the genre's vocabulary. The band's disciplined work ethic and commitment to a fierce DIY ethos cemented their influence on subsequent generations of noise rock and indie bands long after their initial dissolution in 2002.
