Biography
Visible Cloaks is a Portland-based electronic music duo consisting of Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile. Their work explores the intersection of global music traditions, particularly 1980s Japanese ambient, with modern digital production. Using generative software and MIDI translation, they craft intricate, textural soundscapes that feel both artificial and organic. Key albums like 'Reassemblage' and 'Lex' on the #RVNG Intl.# label showcase their 'fourth world' approach, deconstructing and reinterpreting virtual instruments and vocal samples. Their sound is characterized by its serene, detailed, and spatially complex arrangements, creating an immersive and often uncanny listening experience.
