Biography

William S. Burroughs was an American novelist, essayist and spoken word performer, a central figure of the Beat Generation and the author of 'Junkie' and 'Naked Lunch'. His cut-up experiments with *Brion Gysin* reshaped postwar fiction, while spoken word albums from 'Call Me Burroughs' in 1966 to 'Dead City Radio' and 'Spare Ass Annie and Other Tales' in the 1990s made his dry, sardonic voice a fixture of underground music, sampled and celebrated by artists from *Soft Machine* and *Steely Dan* to *Kurt Cobain*.
