Biography
X-Ray Spex was an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976 by singer Poly Styrene. With Jak Airport on guitar, Paul Dean on bass, B. P. Hurding on drums and, after *Lora Logic*'s early departure, Rudi Thompson on saxophone, the band mixed punk energy with saxophone and Styrene's vivid lyrics about consumer culture. The single 'Oh Bondage Up Yours!' (1977) became a punk anthem, and the album 'Germfree Adolescents' (1978) is now regarded as a classic of the genre. The band split in 1979. Styrene revived X-Ray Spex for the album 'Conscious Consumer' (1995) and a final concert performance in 2008; she died in 2011.
