Compiling sessions originally recorded between 1953 and 1955, this release cemented the Modern Jazz Quartet as the premier architects of the highly sophisticated 'Third Stream' movement. Driven by John Lewis's crystalline vibraphone and Milt Jackson's elegant piano, the ensemble flawlessly integrated classical European counterpoint with deeply swinging, blues-inflected improvisation. The deeply reverent title track, dedicated to the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, remains one of the most enduring compositions of the cool jazz era.
