African Scream Contest: Raw & Psychedelic Afro Sounds from Benin & Togo 70s

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Compiled by Analog Africa label founder Samy Ben Redjeb, this electrifying anthology unearths incredibly rare 1970s recordings from West Africa's vibrant, post-colonial club scene. The featured bands relentlessly cross-pollinate traditional voodoo rhythms and localized Fon music with the heavy psychedelic fuzz guitars and raw funk grooves imported from America and the UK. The collection provides an intoxicating, highly rhythmic portrait of a brief but intensely creative era in Beninese and Togolese music.
