Originally released as a legendary split with Emperor's debut EP, this recording is a foundational pillar of Viking metal. The young Norwegian trio bypassed typical satanic black metal tropes in favor of epic Norse mythology, incorporating triumphant synthesizer melodies and acoustic interludes into their ferocious, high-speed guitar riffing. It permanently altered the thematic landscape of Scandinavian extreme metal.
