Album Notes & Community Reviews

Co-written by Maurice White, Al McKay, and Allee Willis, 'September' remains an enduring staple of pop-soul and disco. The track's irresistibly joyous horn arrangement and driving four-on-the-floor beat are elevated by the band's flawless vocal harmonies and the iconic, nonsensical 'ba-de-ya' refrain. It successfully distilled the complex, jazz-influenced musicianship of Earth, Wind & Fire into universal, transcendent party music.
