Serving as the debut single for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, this radical reinterpretation of a folk-rock standard instantly redefined electric guitar playing in London. Urged by manager Chas Chandler to record the track, Hendrix slowed the tempo to a brooding swagger, adding soulful backing vocals and a biting, virtuosic solo. The original B-side, 'Stone Free', was incredibly the very first song Hendrix had ever written.
