Album Notes & Community Reviews
Ushering in a completely retooled lineup after dissolving their previous, highly acclaimed incarnation, Michael Gira guides the experimental rock band into deeply atmospheric, acoustic territory. The track relies on a hypnotic, repetitive acoustic guitar motif, soaring choral vocal accompaniments, and deeply spiritual, apocalyptic lyricism. It signaled a significant transition for the group away from punishing, high-volume sonic assault towards methodical, terrifyingly beautiful restraint.
