A deliberate stylistic departure from the studio psychedelia of 'Sgt. Pepper', 'Lady Madonna' saw the band returning to a raw, 1950s-inspired rhythm and blues sound. The track is anchored by Paul McCartney's Fats Domino-esque barrelhouse piano playing and a prominent brass section instructed to mimic a saxophone choir. The B-side, 'The Inner Light', marked the very first time a George Harrison composition was featured on a Beatles single.
