Evolving significantly from a Bob Dylan-style folk song into a swirling, samba-driven rock epic over several days of studio recording. Mick Jagger adopted the literary persona of a polite but murderous Satan, heavily influenced by Mikhail Bulgakov's novel 'The Master and Margarita'. The grueling, transformative recording sessions were famously captured by director Jean-Luc Godard in the experimental documentary 'One Plus One'.
