High Water

A notable departure from his abrasive hip-hop production, 'High Water' is a collaborative album with the free-jazz ensemble The Blue Series Continuum, led by pianist Matthew Shipp. The record fuses El-P's compositional and post-production techniques with the group's live improvisation, creating a moody and experimental work of electronically-tinged future jazz. El-P arranged his compositions, guided the ensemble's improvised performances, and then digitally restructured the recordings, resulting in a sound that balances avant-garde jazz performance with his distinct, atmospheric production.
