Khepera

A landmark of global music collaboration, 'Khepera' (named for the ancient Egyptian scarab god) expands the definition of Afro-Jazz. On this album, Randy Weston's deeply percussive, African-rooted piano is joined by a multicultural ensemble that includes Pharoah Sanders on tenor sax and, most uniquely, Min Xiao-Fen on the Chinese pipa. The result is a beautiful and spiritual work that creates a 'pan-world' sound, tracing the lineage of black music from ancient Egypt through the global diaspora.
