Serving as the monumental conclusion to Tangerine Dream's early, highly experimental 'Pink Years' era, 'Atem' is a terrifyingly dark, intensely atmospheric space-ambient journey. The album completely abandons traditional rock instrumentation, utilizing massive Mellotron swells and primitive synthesizers to craft wonderfully surreal, deeply mysterious, and heavily ominous progressive electronic soundscapes.
