Mystic Stylez

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Three 6 Mafia's debut, 'Mystic Stylez', is a landmark of Southern hip-hop and a defining work of the horrorcore subgenre. Produced entirely by DJ Paul and Juicy J, the album features a notoriously dark, lo-fi sound created with sparse drum machines, synthesizers, and samples, which serves as a backdrop for graphic lyrical themes of occultism, violence, and drug use. The varied and often fast-paced vocal deliveries from the group's members established a sonic blueprint that would directly influence the future sounds of crunk and trap music.
