American Football

American Football

American Football is an influential American rock band from Urbana, Illinois, formed in 1997. Known for their intricate, interlocking guitar melodies, unconventional time signatures, and Mike Kinsella's confessional lyrics, they are considered pioneers of the Midwest emo and math rock genres. Despite an initial three-year run that produced only one EP and one full-length, 'American Football' (1999), on #Polyvinyl Record Co.#, the band achieved significant cult status posthumously. They reunited in 2014 to widespread acclaim, adding Nate Kinsella to the lineup and have since released two more celebrated, self-titled albums, expanding on their signature melancholic and nostalgic sound.
