Biography
Formed in New York City, the Beastie Boys originated as a hardcore punk act before pivoting to hip hop and expanding the genre's cultural and sonic reach. The group's artistic evolution was marked by a shift from the rock-sampling bravado of their debut, *Licensed to Ill*, to the intricate, sample-dense collage of *Paul's Boutique*.
