Biography
Billy Bragg is an English singer-songwriter and activist whose solo career, begun in 1983 with 'Life's a Riot with Spy vs Spy', mixed punk directness with folk songwriting and left-wing politics. Albums such as 'Talking with the Taxman About Poetry' (1986) and 'Workers Playtime' (1988) made him a distinctive voice in British music, and his 'Mermaid Avenue' albums with *Wilco* set unpublished *Woody Guthrie* lyrics to music.
