Biography
Formed in Sacramento, California, in 1988, Deftones carved a unique space in late-century alternative metal. Their sound is a dynamic fusion of heavy, down-tuned guitar riffs and atmospheric, shoegaze-inspired textures, creating a powerful interplay between aggression and melodic introspection. The band's evolution was crystallized on the landmark 2000 album 'White Pony', which saw them integrate post-rock and electronic elements, expanding their musical and emotional palette. By merging visceral intensity with ethereal vocals from frontman Chino Moreno and complex arrangements, Deftones charted a distinct course away from their nu-metal peers, influencing a wide spectrum of modern rock and metal artists.
