Biography
Canvey Island pub rock band formed in 1971 by singer Lee Brilleaux, guitarist Wilko Johnson, bassist John B. Sparks and drummer John Martin. Their stripped-down rhythm and blues conquered London's pub circuit, and the live album 'Stupidity' (1976) topped the UK chart; 'Milk and Alcohol' (1979), with Johnson's replacement Gypie Mayo, was their only top ten single. Brilleaux led the band until his death in 1994; long-serving later members, fronted by Robert Kane since 1999, still tour and record.
