Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

Biography

The duo credit for Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, whose albums for #Verve Records# — 'Ella and Louis' (1956), 'Ella and Louis Again' (1957) and 'Porgy and Bess' (1957) — paired jazz's greatest singer with its most beloved trumpeter and vocalist. Produced by Norman Granz and backed by the *Oscar Peterson* Quartet, the recordings balance Fitzgerald's purity of tone against Armstrong's rasp and swing, and they remain definitive interpretations of the American songbook.
