Ray Brown

A titan of the jazz bass, Ray Brown is one of the most recorded and influential bassists in history. He rose to fame as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's big band and the Oscar Peterson Trio, where his huge, swinging tone and impeccable timekeeping set a new standard for the instrument. A master of the bebop and hard bop idioms, he was known for his blues-drenched melodicism and for being the ultimate supportive, swinging accompanist. He was also a prolific leader of his own trios.
