Biography
ESG are a band from the South Bronx, New York, formed in 1978 by sisters Renee, Valerie, Deborah and Marie Scroggins. Their sparse funk of drums, bass, guitar and congas, heard on the 1981 EP 'ESG' and the album 'Come Away with ESG' (1983), both on #99 Records#, influenced post punk, hip hop and dance music, and the track 'UFO' became one of the most sampled ever recorded. Reunited in the 1990s, ESG later became a family band around Renee Scroggins, her daughter Nicole and son Nicholas, releasing 'Step Off' (2002), 'Keep on Moving' (2006) and 'What More Can You Take?' (2017).
