Biography
Florence + the Machine was formed in London in 2007 by singer Florence Welch and keyboardist Isabella Summers, whose teenage collaboration supplied the name, from their earlier billing as Florence Robot and Isa Machine. The debut album 'Lungs' arrived in 2009 and won the Brit Award for Best British Album in 2010. 'Ceremonials' followed in 2011, reaching number one in the UK and number six in the United States. In 2015 'How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' became the band's first American number one album, and Welch headlined Glastonbury Festival that year, the first British female headliner of the century. The band continued with 'High as Hope' in 2018, 'Dance Fever' in 2022 and 'Everybody Scream' in 2025, built around Welch's vocals and a long serving core including harpist Tom Monger.
